Jay- to the Z

Jay Z just held a concert at the House Blues Tuesday night held on the Sunset Strip. Jay Z no doubt is one of the most powerful men in hip-hop and held that stand on Tuesday night. When he performed his 100 minute set that reassured his fans that he is the God Father of hip-hop. Face value for tickets was 150 dollars and there where still mobs of people waiting out side to get their ticket. He came on stage at 10:30 pm, and performed two songs from his American Gangster Album. He started out with “Prey” and went right into “No Hook” and that crowd just went nuts.

Lang Lang is Long

Lang Lang, the classical pianist, is getting to be a really exciting character in the classical world. He’s got power and strength in his playing that people really enjoy. He’s also got an over-flashy side that people have a little trouble swallowing. He’s a little bit too excitable and a little bit too interested in the look of the performance. With some pieces, a bit of flash doesn’t hurt. But for music to work well, the player has to also be delicate as well. Apparently he is able to do this, but some of the critics don’t accept it. His show is nothing if not entertaining, however, so there should be no worry on that count.

Sing it, Elton!

Elton John clearly has friends in high places. He was invited to play at the wedding of Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker, an SI swimsuit model. Apparently he played quite well, played a couple of the pair’s favorite songs of his. John has been known to play at this kind of event for his friends. He’s known to be friends with Roddick and has performed with the Roddick charity association and they have worked together on other kinds of projects. Roddick also helped raise nearly $400,000 for John’s AIDS program. Congrats to Roddick and Decker and hopefully it’ll be a nice program!

1931

When we look at the world around us, you might start thinking about the Great Depression. People are out of work and businesses are having trouble keeping up. In this way, the Musicals of 1931 show is quite fitting to the world we live in. The music sung by Rudy Vallee and the big bands of that era was designed the first time as a way to make people feel rich in a world in which they were not. This time, the music can serve the same purpose for us and it will be a very fun show anyway. This series of concerts has rocked it out in New York for the last little while, as a series of revues of the music from different years. This is a show that you should check out if you get the chance, because the music is classic, some of it known, some not. It is a lot of fun!

Unity Tour

The Unity Tourwhich features artist like 311, Snoop Dog, and Fiction Plane kicked off recently in England with Fiction Plane as the opening act. Fans are still learning of Fiction Plane and the Unity has really brought the spot light on them in a hurry. Fiction Plan has received some well noted accolades from their audiences around the country. The bassist and lead singer of the band is Joe Sumner, who is the eldest son of Sting. The tour seems to bring in a respectable bunch of fans that really know their music. When Fiction Plane got on stage the crowed gathered to welcome them that proved that the band was starting to get a recognizable name.

New Kids Still New

New Kids on the Block are back in the limelight. They were one of the most popular bands back in the early 90s, one of the first boy bands. This is one of the bands that just wont go away, because they are so good. This summer, they will continue their reunion tour, called the “North American Summer Tour” that began in Texas last month. If you get New Kids on the Block tickets you can see this band perform at an arena or concert hall right near you! They will be playing some of their old hits as well as their newer songs, like the ones they released last summer. It’s going to be a fun show for them and you can really enjoy what they will be playing. If you liked them then, you’ll like them now. Their music is new and improved. Don’t miss this band this time around!
