Blinking With Happiness

You thought Blink 182 were gone? Well, it must not be true, since you can get Blink 182 tickets still for their upcoming concerts. What happened? Perhaps you’ll remember that the band officially went their separate ways back in 2005, but they just announced a few months ago that they will be getting back together and playing a great tour! They have been making a new CD that they hope to release sometime this year, or the beginning of next year. It’s going to be a lot of fun, however, because their new tour will be taking place, and such great bands as Weezer and Fall Out Boy will be opening for them this time! This is one of the most highly anticipated tours this summer because it was so unexpected and you should make sure not to miss it!

The Proms

For those of you who don’t know, one of the biggest music festivals in the world is the Proms in London. It is several days long and always contains a lot of different styles of music. This year, it appears that there will be music from the Bollywood style and classical music. And every year, there is an evening of British patriotic music (think “Brittania Rules the Waves”). This year, much of the orchestral music will be led by the well-known conductor Daniel Barenboim. It’s going to be a fantastic festival and it wont cost all that much money for each person either. So get ready for a fun evening (or several!).

Green Day

Green Day seems to have become more and more upset at the world it seems since their last album, American Idiot. Their music is still strong and brings up important themes, but some people don’t enjoy the sadness that it brings up. They are so interested in the social and societal problems in America, particularly in the suburban parts of the country, amongst teenagers and families. Their music in the album includes a lot more instrumentation, giving them more options for their music than would otherwise be available to them. So far, their current tour doesn’t have so many instruments, but it’s still very well made. You will find out about some problems in the world, and that might just match your feelings perfectly!

Depeche Mode

When you heard about the newest Depeche Mode concert tour, you were probably excited. They don’t tour North America all that often, but it’s definitely a lot of fun. But the problem is that Dave Gahan is sick and so they are simply cancelling some performances because he is completely unable to appear onstage. They have just canceled 4 shows, but there were several cancelled before this too. It’s too bad for those who already have tickets but will now miss the show. Keep your eyes open for other shows that they might schedule to make up for the missed ones. It’s hard to reschedule things this time of year sometimes, because many venues are packed throughout the summer. But this is a band that so many people are looking forward too, so it might be possible for them to shuffle some things around.

Seeger

When Pete Seeger turned 90 years old this spring, he probably expected that he would keep a low profile, and have a small celebration at home or something. But instead he was feted in a big concert featuring several of the biggest performers in music. A lot of performers who were excited to celebrate a musician who had had a lot of influence on them were there, including Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and a whole range of others. They sang his songs, their own songs that fit the situation and several songs that were written for this particular occasion. This was a beautiful occasion and a good way to show respect to one of the icons of music!

Asher Roth

This is the type of musician that many people might describe as an Eminem wannabe, but he’s actually rather witty. Asher Roth is a rapper from suburban Philly who happens to have a knack for rhyming and rhythm, while never forgetting his own style along the way. His current debut performances in London have gained him a bit of fame and he’s good at connecting with the audiences wherever he is. He does some high fiving with the spectators and dances around on the stage, in a way that some people might consider weird, but it’s actually rather endearing too. It’s fun to see him, so make sure to get out there and see what he’s like if he comes to your area.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Donald Evans, the bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd has passed away, the news reports today. This southern rock band is one of the most popular around and people really have enjoyed them for many years. He was 48 and died at his home in Mississippi. Apparently he had cancer and expired as a result. It’s not clear what the band will do in the meantime, since they are in the process of a tour, if I’m not mistaken. But they will certainly miss Evans and they will never sound quite the same without him. We wish his family well and hopefully the band will be doing alright afterwards.

Goode is Good

This entry concerns a famous pianist named Richard Goode, who is one of the most well-known in the industry right now. He has done a lot of recording over the years, and has recently released a set of Beethoven’s sonatas (all of them) and it’s possibly the best set of albums he has released. A lot of his recordings are of Brahms, Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach, the old standards really.  His style of playing is very beautiful. He also has live performances coming up in the New York area, including Carnegie Hall. He’s also a teacher at the Marlboro Festival in Vermont as well as at several other places at times. He’s prolific and interesting. What’s not to like?

Legend

There are few performers that are as respected as John Legend is. It’s not that he’s so much better than other performers. But he’s able to collaborate with them so very well! He’s talented and able to get great talent together everytime he makes any music. He has collaborated with Kanye West and will.i.am and several other big name rap and funk artists. His most recent album “Evolver” is really well made and interesting to listen to. He is apparently quite well dressed too, but that’s not as important as the beauty of the music that he produces. His recent work with Andre 3000 have been described as inspired and exciting. Make sure you get your John Legend tickets so you too can see him in action!
